Who Is Actually a 2026 Rookie?

A rookie is a driver in his first full season. By that definition the 2026 grid has one: Arvid Lindblad, promoted to Racing Bulls after finishing sixth in the 2025 Formula 2 championship. Formula1.com and RacingNews365 both describe him as the grid’s sole rookie.

The other new names of 2026 are not rookies. Cadillac, the new eleventh team, chose experience: Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas, both returning to the grid after a year away. Isack Hadjar moved up from Racing Bulls to Red Bull Racing alongside Max Verstappen — a new seat, but a second season. Antonelli, Bortoleto and Bearman all debuted in 2025 and stayed with their teams. We treat those four as the class of 2025–2026: new enough that their helmet designs are still evolving, but no longer first-timers.

Arvid Lindblad — Racing Bulls (2026 rookie)

Lindblad’s regular 2026 helmet was revealed ahead of the season opener in Australia, where he scored points on debut. The design that drew the most attention, though, was his one-off for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, his first home race. Created with British-Indian artist Navinder Nangla, it carries hand-drawn, deliberately childlike sketches on a white base: a scribbled Union Jack under the visor with the words “Dream Big”, and illustrations of moments from his path — joining the Red Bull junior programme, a double win at Silverstone in Formula 3 in 2024, and his first F1 points in Melbourne. Kimi Antonelli — Mercedes (second season)

Antonelli’s second year at Mercedes has produced the busiest special-helmet calendar of the group. Public reveal images show his base 2026 design keeping a white and silver ground with coloured streaks. For the Japanese Grand Prix he ran a wolf design credited to Chikami Hayashi as part of the Y-3 × Mercedes collaboration that also covered the car and race suits; the licensed 1:2 replica of that helmet is sold through the Mercedes team store, which confirms the design. For Monza he revealed a green, white and red tricolore scheme with a Valentino Rossi homage.

Isack Hadjar — Red Bull Racing (second season)

Hadjar’s promotion to the senior Red Bull team came with a new helmet, revealed before the season. It is yellow and purple, a palette chosen as a nod to Ayrton Senna, with the Red Bull logo on the sides and a physics equation on the rear as a tribute to his father, a physicist. Motorsport.com, GPblog and Paddock GP reported the same details. His 2026 specials include a “molten sun” one-off for Suzuka and a Dutch Grand Prix helmet that reworks the Delft-blue trophy he broke on the podium in 2025.

Gabriel Bortoleto — Audi (second season)

Bortoleto was the first driver on the grid to reveal a 2026 helmet, shown in Audi colours as the former Sauber team became a works entry. The design carries the green and yellow of the Brazilian flag, as his 2025 helmet did, with a white section left for Audi’s partners; GPFans and GPblog both describe it as a close evolution of the previous year’s design rather than a new one.

Oliver Bearman — Haas (second season)

Bearman’s 2026 season helmet was revealed with the Haas launch; published descriptions of its colours differ, so we leave the base design to the photographs. The one-off that is well documented is his British Grand Prix helmet: a red, white and blue scheme built from Union-Jack-style diagonal ribbons, with a teddy bear detail — his mascot Obbie — playing on his surname.

What the Newest Designs Share

Read side by side, the 2026 reveals show a few recurring habits.

• A home-race one-off. Lindblad and Bearman both revealed Silverstone specials; Antonelli did the same for Monza. A first or second home Grand Prix is the most common trigger for a special design.
• Family and idols on the shell. Hadjar’s rear-mounted equation for his father and Senna-yellow palette, and Lindblad’s sketches of his dad’s support, put personal history where the cameras will find it.
